Yogasanas – Attaining to Asana Siddhi

By Victor M Fontane

There are 84 fundamental yoga asanas and in us are 84 ways to make the body into your passage. It is not necessary for everybody to do 84 asanas, if they do one it’s enough. Serious Hatha Yogis who are taking Hatha yoga as their path to liberation only one asana, which is difficult, will do it. Sitting for two and a half hours in the right way, a stable and comfortable way, is known as asanasiddhi. Then you will know everything that you can know.

A good example is a TV set where you can bring the whole world and beyond to a box of just electronic circuits simply because of the receiver. But if the TV is not connected or oriented properly would not receive the signal, images and information. Like wise our body and mind needs to be properly connected and oriented to receive the knowledge and wisdom and the view of the outside Universe as well.

So, a human being is what he is only because of what he perceives. You are who you are only because what you perceive in your life until now and in the future as well. The whole system of Yoga is only interested in enhancing perception. If you hold the posture right, if your alignment is right and matches the cosmic alignment in some way 84 alignment will happen.

Yoga means “Union”, which means that two have become one. There are only two in existence, you and the rest of the existence because there only two dimensions of experience within you. The only experiential reality is: there is something called outward and there is something called inward. So, Yoga means to bring a union between these inner and outer, you and the rest.

Asanas is the physical approach to this ultimate union. The mind can be also used to achieve this union but is very tricky and hard to accomplish, the body is and easier vehicle through the postures.

A goal to do the yoga asanas is to create balance in life, important for success but hard to accomplish for humans.
