Apart from it's historical usage, the term meditation was introduced as a translation for Eastern spiritual practices, referred to as dhyana in Hinduism and Buddhism and which comes from the Sanskrit root dhyai, meaning to contemplate or meditate. Meditation is a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from normal waking state. It is the means for fathoming all the levels of ourselves and finally experiencing the center of consciousness within. Generally, we focus with the eyes closed on just one thing, like a spiritual concept, a candle or our own breathing until we disconnect our senses and achieve a level with no distractions and dive into different levels to get into the center of our consciousness (like peeling an onion to get to it's core), our true self, the Divine Spark.
