I walked past a church this morning and saw a banner they put up that said, “We are free,” but think again. Are we really free? Free from what? Humans are slaves to systems and their regulations. With Covid, some people argue that they are not afraid of not getting vaccinated but then they are afraid of the vaccine itself, we are slaves to dogmas, religions, jobs, beliefs, relationships, racism, classism and even from other people, etc. which ultimately leads to suffering. As long as we depend on others we become slaves even to our own thoughts.
So, Buddha taught in the four noble truths that the only way to be free is through enlightenment, discovering who we really are and the true nature of things and experiences.
