There are people who, when they fall in love and feel very close, believe that they are soul mates. Could not be farther from the truth. Remember that in most cases the affinity is only between the lower spiritual vehicles, just the physical affinity, not the spiritual. Also, relationships occur only for a karmic cause, in other words, to complete or finish what was started in other lives.
The twin soul theory is based on the division into two polarities of the Higher Self which is the indestructible Divine particle in each of us referred by Shri Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. I don't think many people have the ability to explore those depths and no self-respecting astrologer would claim that he can see or study it in a natal chart.
In my years of experience I have seen how those couples who claimed to be soul mates separate when the karma between them ends and in most cases they end up hating each other.
That is the effect of Maya-Shakti (The Psycho-Physical Aspect of the Universe). The Lord's Maya Shakti is the cause of the entire creation, which is constituted of the three gunas.
