There are Different Ways to Know About our Past Lives

By Victor M Fontane

As humans in our present incarnation we are the sum of all past lives experiences, places and circumstances, what it is called Karma. Unfortunately, although when were are born we bring some memories from past lives, not having the necessary neurological equipment to understand them and also because in our western societies is customary to suppress all tendencies (samskaras in Sanskrit) and those memories, parents, school, society, etc. stars implanting what they know or believe is correct depriving the child of that vast knowledge.

However, as adults and with the knowledge we can use different technique to see ourselves in past lives, places where we lived, circumstances, people, etc. some necessarily guided by a qualified professional. Remember, that what we define as “I” is just a set of memories.

All starts with our dreams. All ancient spiritual traditions taught that there are three states of consciousness in humans: awake state, dream state, and deep sleep state. Deep spiritual teaching explains a forth state of our consciousness called the subtle unconscious where all the karmic seeds are stored.

In the second, our dreams often mix in a very subtle way, present experiences with experiences from past lives. Unfortunately, most people forget their dreams almost immediately and lack the ability to interpret their meanings.

There are ways to remember our dreams that requires practice, dedication and determination. One way is at bedtime, before laying down, seated in the bed and lights off imagine at least for three minutes the room completely illuminated focusing on every detail of the room, lying down on the pillow to fall sleep on the right side and placing the right hand, palm up under the right ear. This will activate the limbic system which is buried deep in the most primordial parts of the brain; that is, it is thought to have been among the first to develop in the human species. This is probably because mood is evolutionarily important.

Other way is through hypnosis with a qualified professional.

Another method is training the mind to remember in detail our life starting with what we did in the last hour, last day, last week, last year, etc. One great Master, Dr. Krishna Bhat, said once that as long as we practice this method until the beginning of our life we can probably be able to jump to past life.

Inference is other method used. This represents the tastes or preferences of people by countries, types of food, cultures, music, etc. which may indicate that in past lives he lived in places and have related experiences.

Lastly, an ancient method is the use of a mirror. Place a mirror like that of a dresser and put two candles on both sides, using music, such as martial marches or melancholic or classical music. If possible with another person, dim the lights in the room and keep your eyes fixed on the mirror. In many cases you see changes in countenance and appearance produced by karmic seeds that actually have to do with our genetics and appearance. However, this exercise should not be done frequently as it can create negative effects on vision. It is important to take notes of the results, not only in changes in appearance but also in memories that may arise.

Finally, knowing or recognizing our experiences in past life can help first to understand our present experiences, resolve present personality and psychological issues rooted in past lives and clean the karmic seeds stored in our subtle consciousness to advance our spiritual path.
