The Sumerian Planisphere

The clay tablet known as the Sumerian Planisphere could corroborate the 5,000-year-old biblical story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. According to a surprising report by two scientists who have spent eight years of research, the tablet, which had puzzled scholars for 150 years, is in fact a virtual eyewitness description of an ancient asteroid impact that would have destroyed the city of Sodom and Gomorrah, killing thousands of people and devastating more than 621,000 square kilometers. Scientists call this incident a "Köfels impact event" and it is said to be related to a large landslide episode. The impact itself is equivalent to the explosion of more than 1,000 tons of TNT.
