One of the basic differences between a religious practitioner and a spiritual person is that most religious people are part-time practitioners, they go to mass once a week, mostly on Sundays, maybe a meeting or gathering now and then and special occasions like Christmas, Easter, etc. They follow the same practices and routines that have been done for two thousand years and pray to an imaginary person called God without challenging or questioning the information and their beliefs and accepting just one book as the only truth without even knowing how and by whom it was written, etc.
A real spiritual person spends his or her life in regular, sometimes daily spiritual practices, meditating, chanting mantras, studying and practicing Dharma, compassion, and helping others, aiming to reach their highest human potential and understand the ultimate reality of all human experiences. In between are others who possess no practice, do not educate themselves, and do not really know the very purpose of life.
