Do it regularly, every day.
Have a fixed time, some time in the morning, some time in the evening. Fixed time is good as the mind is a creature of habit.
Have a fixed place.
Avoid bad company.
Practice some amount of asceticism and a minimalistic life.
Have a sense of vastness, immensity of space, vast mountains and oceans, lands beyond the horizon feeling that the Universe is so vast and yet is all appearing to you in your consciousness. So, you are vaster than space itself, eternity and time and your real nature has no limit and this will give stability to your mind.
