Negative Thoughts and Emotions in the Buddhist Tradition

By Victor M Fontane

Negative thoughts and emotions in the Buddhist tradition and how to overcome them.

Negative thought and negative emotion arises and are mainly related to two things: one, self centered attitude, I, me, mine, etc. and two is that we accept reality as it appears. In ancient traditions nothing exist as it appears and we are not capable of seeing and understanding the ultimate reality of things and experiences, it’s called in Buddhism Shunnyata. Understanding that something cannot come from nothing nor can something suddenly become nothing, all things and experiences have a source and a cause.

So since all negative emotions are very much based on appearances once you realize that, it becomes wisdom. Altruism is the antidote for self-centered attitude and understanding the ultimate reality of all experiences releases and eliminate those negative thoughts and emotions.
