The development of modern technology has brought us unprecedented convenience and information, but it has also had a profound impact on our psyche. From the point of view of intellectualism, technology is like a double-edged sword, it can accelerate the accumulation of karma and knowledge acquisition in the ālaya-consciousness, and it is also easier to breed the three poisons.
The doctrine of knowledge holds that our mind is like a field, and the Arayer knowledge is the seed bank of this field. Technology is like an efficient seeder that quickly sows all kinds of "seeds" including good and evil. As we browse information and interact with people on the web, we constantly accumulate new experiences and habits in the Arayer knowledge. If we lack the guidance of mindfulness and wisdom, we can easily be deceived by the outside world and fall into the hustle.
For example, we might be moved by tragic stories online to make kind donations. This may seem like a good act, but if we lack the ability to discern and are blinded by false information, then this kind of good act can be a cause of growth (hungry for merit). If you find out later that you have been cheated, you may have hatred and even lose trust in the whole world. This is the manifestation of impermanence, and it reminds us to look at things in a more objective, multi-dimensional perspective and avoid falling into the trap of dualistic opposites.
True giving should be based on indiscipline and compassion. Whether or not the other person is worth helping or not will fail our goodwill, we should remain equal and not cling to the results. Even if we are deceived, there should not be hatred, because hatred only strengthens our pain and does not solve the problem.
Technology also provides us with the convenience of learning Dharma, such as learning the skills to change thoughts, which can help us better cope with the challenges of life When we encounter adversity, we can try to look at the problem from a different perspective and find solutions instead of being troubled by negative emotions.
Technology breaks down the boundaries of geography and makes it easier for us to reach different cultures and races. This also confirms the intellectual view that our cognition and identity are largely influenced by externalities and experiences. Babies grow up anywhere and can identify themselves as locals, which is the embodiment of the "Mall Law Knowledge".
By learning the impurity of consciousness, we can become more deeply aware of the impermanence of life. Whether young or old, beautiful or ugly, it's only temporary and will eventually return to dust. Only by letting go of the attachment to the outside can you achieve true inner peace and freedom.
When using the internet and mobile devices, we should stay aware and avoid being overwhelmed by the vast amount of information. Reduce unnecessary comments and judgement, avoid creating business in the virtual world and keep the mind clean.
