Meditation

Why is it so difficult for some people to meditate? Meditation is not stopping your mental function or "clearing your mind", it is actually the ability to focus on a single thing for a period of time so that the mind can detach itself from regular mental processes and enter a realm of pure awareness.


Thoughts always come and go interrupting that concentration, also they are only memories (generally what we learn from others) so some spiritual schools recommend focusing the mind as in the breath or in the wick of a candle and when the thoughts arrive, look at them like passing clouds that won't stop and let go until you see a clear sky.
