How to Eat in a Restaurant: The spiritual process

By Victor M Fontane

Our ancestors ate food to sustain and nourish the body since this is the temple and holder of the spirit. In other words, the vehicle we use in the physical world. As such we have to take care of it, and feed it properly. However, nowadays we eat food just for entertainment without being aware of the ritual that the process entails. Whether in the house or outside the house, we must then see the spiritual part of the exercise of eating. At home, we should sit at the table free of worries, in peace and quiet. Maintain positive energies and conversations, without distractions such as television, etc. to be focused, and before starting being aware of the kind of food we are going to eat and its consequences. Begin by thanking and blessing the animals, in the case of meat, who sacrificed and suffered for us, bless all the people involved in the process of bringing food to the table, ranchers, farmers, truck drivers, cooks, waiters, etc. and offer the benefits of the food to all sentient beings. So when do we eat? After the ritual, keep awareness that we are feeding the temple of the spirit and it is a sacred ritual. Thus, all the elements will be benefited in the digestion process.

Of course, outside the house we have to do all this discreetly.
