The habits that we humans acquire in life are powerful and difficult to change. Wise King Solomon wrote: "Instruct a child in the right way, and even in his old age he will not abandon it." In other words, the habits we take throughout life stay with us for a long time. That's why it's important to develop good habits, not bad ones. A very popular saying says that: "practice makes perfect", however, this is not the case because if you always do something wrong it will never be perfect, it will be permanent and it will shape your behavior. In the same way, the spiritual path requires the necessary and continuous practice to change bad habits and purify the mind, to reach our maximum human and spiritual potential.
