Buddha Meaning: The Awakened One

By Victor M Fontane

But why is that? Ancient traditions and wisdom and modern science as well support the idea that the physical world that we experience is nothing more than a creation of our mind or consciousness called also as illusion (maya in Sanskrit). Thus, the world as we experience is a construct of our mind triggered by the consequences of our actions or karma. It is also an illusion as is not permanent and outside of the eternal divine and primordial consciousness in every human being. The outside world, experiences and our thoughts as well then are part of the dream we have believing that is real. When you find the real you, in the gap between two thoughts, on deep sleep or in samadhi you are liberated, you awake from the dream. Then, the illusory “I” becomes the real “I”, the pure and divine consciousness.

Prince Siddhartha Gautama in his quest to find the root of suffering attained enlightenment (bodhi) while meditating underneath a fig tree (Ficus religiosa). According to Buddhist texts, the Buddha meditated without moving from his seat for seven weeks (49 days) under this tree and woke up from the illusion or Maya to his real “I” or pure and divine consciousness.
