About the Mantra Om

By Victor M Fontane

Chanting the Mantra OM its become very popular in this country even at christian churches and is important understand the meaning and effect caused in energy realm of the physical world.

First we need to know the three aspects of human consciousness or the self. Those are the awake state, dream state and deep sleep state or blankness and “Turia or the pure consciousness, the fourth witness that witness all aspects and how the Universe appears and disappear every single day for our consciousness as explained by Vedanta.

Reciting the mantra Om will be nice as after the practice you will feel a little calm but it still far from enlightenment so let’s analyze the holy word Om. Om is considered the "original vibration of the universe" in Hinduism, or the vibration from which all other vibrations are born. In Hindu scripture, it is defined as the foundational sound of creation. Although it is pronounced Om, the mantra has four letters whose sounds together are pronounced as only two,

AUM, three letters followed by silence. So, the mantra relates and is associated to the three aspects of human consciousness and the silence at the end is the witness of the of all aspects or “Turia”.

Thus, A represent the wake state of our human consciousness and the physical realm, U represent the dreaming state of our human consciousness, M represent the deep sleep and finally the silence represent the witness of all aspects or “Turia”.

To use the mantra OM during your meditation practice then you must associate the three letters , AUM and the fourth, silence with your consciousness aspects or stages, wake, dream and deep sleep and the fourth, the witness or “Turia” in this way:

Imagining the A as your waking life and the physical world but pronouncing it as O.

Imagining the U as some dream pronouncing it as O.

Imagining the M as deep sleep pronouncing it as M.

Extending the M and a silence as the witness or “Turia”.

All pronounced in a low tone. In this way you are connecting the mantra and the sound of the creation with all states of your consciousness getting the benefits of training your mind in the way to enlightenment.

So, first we have to dwell in the silence (Turia) as it is the conscious witness of that silence at the end of the mantra and second understand the philosophy of the language.
