About Suffering

Each person in each incarnation comes to handle particular things, the karmic conditions, positive or negative, that correspond to them.

According to Patanjali, the Father of the Modern Yoga, there are 5 causes of suffering.

The kleshas are the mental states that cloud the mind, manifest in unwholesome actions and are considered the cause of suffering in yogic and Buddhist philosophy and are to be actively overcome.

The five Kleshas are:

  1. Avidya (ignorance)

  2. Asmita (egoism or I-am-ness)

  3. Raga (attachment)

  4. Dvesha (repulsion and aversion)

  5. Abhinivesha (fear of death and the will to live)
