About prayer and faith in simple words

By Victor M Fontane

Once a man came to Buddha and asked him if he believed in God. Buddha, “What do you mean by God?” Buddha replied. The man said, “The one who punishes the wicked and rewards the good.

Buddha responded, “The Universe is governed by laws, not by an individual being who punishes or reward. Each person is responsible for their own actions and their consequences”. The man didn’t agree and left.

Later, the man got into trouble and prayed for God’s help, but nothing happened.

He went back to Buddha and told him what happened.

Buddha replied, “The consequences of your actions cannot be erased by prayer. You have to face them and learn from them.”

The man realized his blind faith and became a follower of Buddha and his teachings.
